A Hucknall brewery is planning to expand the number of pubs that it operates in 2022.

Lincoln Green Brewery, based on Wigwam Lane in Hucknall already runs five establishments. These are: The Station Hotel in Hucknall; The Robin Hood and Little John in Arnold; The Railway in Belper; The Sir John Borlase Warren in Canning Circus; and The Brickyard in Carlton.

However, they are looking to expand their portfolio of pubs next year and are currently in the process of finalising the details.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Anthony Hughes, founder of Lincoln Green Brewery, said: "We're now looking for opportunities for further pubs. We've got a couple of potential sites on the go for 2022."

Although Mr Hughes was not willing to give more details about this latest venture it shows that Hucknall's very own brewery is doing a good job of bouncing back from a tough couple of years thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic.

He said: "From our point of view there are two sides to our business: we've got pubs which were forced to close; and then the brewery which was allowed to continue trading but didn't have anyone that it could sell its products to.

"At the time most of our beer production was cask ale and therefore was the type of product that you can only sell to a pub, so it was a bit devastating to say the least back in March 2020 when that happened.

"Fortunately, we were able to shift out beer production into bottles and things like the relationship that we have with the Co-Op and then setting up an online website and also our own brewery shop, I can genuinely say those revenue streams were what kept the brewery alive throughout the pandemic.

"Pubs, fortunately, were incredibly well supported by the government so we were able to essentially mothball those and then with the support like the CBILS (Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme) and stuff like that we've been able to ride the storm."

However, Mr Hughes is not complacent about the company's future and admitted that a lot hinged on today's budget announcements from the Chancellor.

Speaking, the day before these announcements, Mr Hughes said: "It'll be interesting to see what sort of plans he's got that will affect either the brewing industry or pubs. Hopefully he will be kind because we've still got a bit of a hill to climb."
