Hucknall Fire Station collecting Easter donations for local children's centre

By Tom Surgay 3rd Mar 2022

Hucknall's firefighters are once again accepting community donations to benefit the local community.

They are asking for donations of Easter eggs and treats which will be given to The Sure Start children's centre on Broomhill Road in Hucknall and the children's ward at Nottingham City Hospital.

In order to get involved, residents are asked to message their address to the fire station's Facebook page so they can be added to the collection route, buy, bake or make their donation and look out for the firefighters on collection day which will be Saturday 2 April.

This is not the first time the firefighters from Hucknall Fire Station have organised collections like this. During the height of the pandemic, they frequently collected donations and made deliveries for Hucknall's food bank on Vine Terrace. At Christmas, they organised a 12 days of Christmas collection also for the food bank, which involved making 115 pick-ups in one day.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service run an annual Easter campaign, and this will help local charities and children's hospital wards.

However, Hucknall Fire Station wanted to do something for their immediate local community.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, crew manager, Marcus Pratt said: "We thought we'd try and do something a little bit more Hucknall based obviously to help the Sure Start Centre out and then if it goes a bit bigger than what they need then anything extra we'll take up to the children's hospital. It's looking after people in our area, the way we've done it really.

"They obviously helped us out when we've done our food bank bit, they've held a little bit of a drive at the children's centre, and donated so I said, 'look I'll see what we can do'."

"We're always looking at ways that we can give back to our community. Generally, we'll go out when there's death or destruction or devastation so it's nice to be able to be seen to be doing other things."

Anyone wishing to get involved should make contact with Hucknall Fire Station's Facebook page which can be found here.
