A sports education company based in Hucknall has shown its support for local children's centres by donating to their Christmas fundraiser.

Sports Gateway Community has raised £200 to support Friends of Ashfield in purchasing new books for young children and families.

The total amount raised was £270 and in turn this helped purchase nearly 400 new books.

Director for the education programme Jamie Brough said: "We are delighted to support Friends of Ashfield in this year's fundraiser for new books. Education is something that is incredibly close to the heart of our organisation and is something that we firmly believe is fundamental to a better society.

Samantha Widnall of Tommy's Tiny Treasures said: "Myself and Michelle from Friends of Ashfield North Children's Centres are so thankful to everyone involved at Sports Gateway for their generous donation, this money will go a long way in helping to support children and their families, some of the books have been used as Christmas presents for the local children."

Jamie Brough added: "Since the summer, Sports Gateway Community have raised and/or donated over £5000 to local projects and charity groups including Hucknall Netball club, local junior football teams and the Royal British Legion, as well as offering a free meals programme to some of the most vulnerable families in Hucknall.

"We are committed to supporting the health, wellbeing, and education of the people of Hucknall and Ashfield. We have some exciting partnerships starting in 2022 and are currently planning our next charity fundraiser which is being led by two of our outstanding learners Olivia Jenkins and Lilly Kent."
