Update: The closure has now been lifted and all lanes have been reopened.

A serious collision on the M1 has caused the northbound carriageway to be closed, not far from the Hucknall junction.

Currently, the stretch of the motorway between Junction 25 (near Stapleford) and 26 (Nottingham north) is closed following the incident which is causing long delays.

A police statement said: "Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called at 8.50am this morning (Wednesday 29 September 2021) and are currently at the scene.

"Drivers are asked to avoid the area and are thanked for their patience whilst emergency services work hard to resolve the incident. An update will be provided in due course."

The incident also means anyone travelling northbound up the M1 to get to Hucknall will need to come off the motorway earlier than usual and take an alternative route.

Highways England are currently advising road users to follow the below diversion:

  • Leave the M1 at J25 and take the 4th exit at the roundabout onto

the A52 eastbound.

  • Follow the A52 for approx. 2.6 miles to the Bramcote roundabout

and take the 2nd exit onto the A6007.

  • After 750m at the mini roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the

A6002.

  • Continue on the A6002 for approx. 3.8 miles until the roundabout

with the A610 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A610

heading west.
  • Proceed along the A610 back to the M1 J26 and at the roundabout
take the 3rd exit to rejoin the M1 northbound and continue your

journey.

The carriageway is expected to remain closed for several hours.
