A Hucknall fundraising group has donated £200 to a local church to enable them to buy more Lego for their Creator's Club.

OT fundraisers has given the money to Watnall Road Baptist Church to bolster their Lego collection which is used on a monthly basis at the popular group.

The creator's club, aimed at families, is held on the third Saturday of every month from 2pm until 3:30pm. It met last month for the first time since the first lockdown in March 2020.

It is led by Lisa Buckley, the church's Children and Families Worker.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, she said: "It's just really exciting, the sets that have been donated are going to cater for so many more different people, to bring people in. My mind was blown away really. It will make a huge difference moving forward and (to) the development of the creator's club. It's going to make a massive difference and we're so grateful.

"Our first one was really good we had about 80 people, so we had 33 children. It was just a lovely atmosphere to come together, chill out and just build Lego have cake and refreshments."

Asked about the part church can play in working with the local community following the lifting of Covid-19 related restrictions, she added: "Our strapline is hope in the heart of the community and that is my passion, it is about bringing hope.

"We've had a difficult two years and now we're still having difficulties with the economic crisis and it's about bringing that hope, bringing opportunities for people to come together. Providing opportunities to help other people is really important. Churches, because they're charity based, can be that heart of the community. It's not about what we want, it's about what does the community want, what will help them."

The donation is part of a pot of £2500 that OT fundraisers along with Keycraft Garden Buildings Ltd raised through organising and hosting a Santa's grotto and Christmas village in December.

OT fundraisers, run by Lynne Ryland, is named after Ms Ryland's son, Owen Towle, who has a rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi syndrome. They are a well-known group within Hucknall for giving back to the community through various events, collections, and support of good causes.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Ms Ryland said: "it was stipulated that everything we raised was staying in Hucknall and local. This group took off and I understand in the first couple of meetings they have about 30 kids and it was a good incentive to give to. Lisa reached out to me, and I spoke to Jackie (West, managing director of Keycraft) about it and we said yes."

There is still £1300 waiting to be given to benefit Hucknall based community groups or charities.
