Arc Cinema donates proceeds from showing the England game to Hucknall Sports
The Arc Cinema in Hucknall has donated some of its proceeds from showing England's Euro 2020 match to Hucknall Sports.
The cinema showed the live broadcast of England's 2-0 victory over Germany on screen one. Due to social distancing rules, the cinema could only operate at 50% capacity which meant that 41 people watched on the big screen.
Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane saw England beat Germany in a knockout round of a major tournament for the first time since the 1966 World Cup Final.
Mark Gallagher, the manager of the cinema said: "Because it's a free to air sporting event you're not allowed to charge entry, so we had to come up with a way to charge people just to secure bookings. We didn't want queues of people turning up as we'd have to turn away more than we could let in.
"Then I came up with the idea of charging for everyone's first drink and first snack, so the ticket price included a large drink and a large popcorn, nachos or hot dog. That only came to £7 something and I wanted to charge our normal ticket price so there was a couple of quid leftover. I just thought it'd be really nice to donate that to a charity.
"The Hucknall Sports shop is across the road from the cinema. My five-year-old son plays football on a Saturday morning with Hucknall Sports and the two men that run it, Derek and Alan, they love football, they love kids, they love grassroots. They're such a lovely setup and I just wanted to support them. It's obviously relevant because it's football; it's the perfect fit."
