An artisan market which was held in Hucknall twice last year is set to become a regular feature on the local calendar in 2023.

The North Notts Artists, Makers and Fine Foods Market will be held at The John Godber Centre on Ogle Street on the fourth Sunday of every month from January to July as well as in September and October.

The market is the brainchild of Verity Betts, a qualified textile artist who moved to the North Nottinghamshire area near Mansfield from Kent in 2019.

Last year, two taster events were held in August and December to gauge the popularity and viability of the market in Hucknall. Both were successful, particularly the first one which Ms Betts attributes to the time of year, making the decision to hold the market regularly in Hucknall a pretty straightforward one.

The first event of this year held in the town, is on Sunday (29 January), and will feature 27 artists. It has been titled a 'Sale & Seconds' event, which means there will be the potential for customers to take advantage of some great offers.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Ms Betts said: "This fantastic event gives all our creatives the opportunity to share some work that might have the tiniest flaws or was an end of a collection and at huge discounts too to delight the buyer.

"For the artist this is a fabulous opportunity to make room for more work to be imagined, designed and produced. The event is the first of nine Artisan Markets this year with the North Notts Artists, Makers & Fine Foods Markets at The John Godber Centre from January to July then September and October.

"We have attracted a further 38 new artisans to our register this year and with now over 100 on our register, you will always see familiar faces and some new artists, every time. In other words, the Market won't get boring!

"At The John Godber Centre we not only have the main selling room, but we have the luxury of the comfy Coffee Bar too. Rochele of Brookeside Bakery will be offering a full range of teas, coffee and speciality hot chocolates as well as her Artisan eat treats to take a moment out of the hubbub of the Market room and sit quietly. It's the perfect place to meet once a month for a cuppa and catch up with friends."

The market will be open from 10am until 2pm; there is no entry fee.
