Ashfield District Council organised and held a business breakfast event last week at Sherwood Business Park, in Annesley, on the outskirts of Hucknall.

They welcomed business leaders from across the District to the networking event, the first to be held since the pandemic.

It saw over 30 local business leaders come together to hear speakers from the Life Sciences business sector.

Speakers included Professor John Hunt, Academic Lead, Medical Technologies Innovation Facility at Nottingham Trent University, Joanne Maltby, Innovation Adviser Medilink Midlands and Martin Rigley, Chairman of Discover Ashfield.

This is the first in a series of breakfast events that will be held by the Council to support local business leaders.

Councillor Matthew Relf, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for local business leaders to come together, network and hear some knowledgeable speakers.

"The Council's Business Support team are here to offer help, support and guidance to everyone from sole traders to leaders of multinational organisations.

"The Council issued £22m in funding to businesses during the pandemic, we are committed to supporting businesses in any way we can."

The Towns Fund funding of over £62m will see significant investment into the business sector in the District.

There are plans for a new Automated Distribution and Manufacturing Centre to create a national centre of excellence focussed on promoting and providing access to the latest technologies and best practice in automated distribution.

The Enterprising Ashfield project will see Nottingham Trent University deliver a £3.8m support programme designed to boost the local economy by almost £19 million over the next 10 years.

Councillor Relf said: "This really is a fantastic time for businesses to be investing in Ashfield. Projects like Enterprising Ashfield will offer help and support to new and existing businesses as well as education and training opportunities to residents.

"We would encourage any local entrepreneurs, business owners or business leaders to contact the Council's Business Support team to see how they can support you."
