Ashfield District Council has once again lit up Ada Lovelace House in Kirkby to mark White Ribbon Day and 16 Days of Activism which ends on Saturday 10 December.
White Ribbon Day is an annual awareness campaign that was celebrated on Thursday 25 November and aims to end male violence against women and girls.
As one of the Council's priorities, the authority endorses the White Ribbon mission to prevent violence against women and girls by creating awareness and providing support to survivors across Ashfield.
Ashfield District Council is holding information sessions across the district throughout the 16 days to highlight the support that can be offered to survivors of domestic abuse. The events will be supported by Nottinghamshire Police and Nottingham Independent Domestic Abuse Services (NIDAS).
The event in Hucknall will take place on Monday 5 December at Under One Roof, on Vine Terrace from 10am until 2pm.
Councillor Helen-Ann Smith, Executive Lead Member for Community Safety and Crime Reduction, said: "We are proud to once again be an accredited advocate for White Ribbon Day and 16 Days Of Activism. The importance and impact it has on the people affected can't be overlooked. We will work to inform, educate and reinforce the unacceptable behaviours which have no place in society."
This funding is on top of the recent successful Safer Streets round four funding by Ashfield District Council where £63,000 was secured to improve town centre safety for women and young girls.
This was achieved by implementing Safe Points Boxes with instant and direct access to police, creating Accredited Safe Spaces in local businesses where support and safety can be offered, and the installation of new High Definition CCTV cameras across the District to reduce Anti-Social Behaviour
Councillor Sarah Madigan, Executive Lead Member for Customer Services and Stretigic Planning said: "We know that domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of gender. Please come and talk to us if you are worried about someone you know, or if you are being abused. Help and support is always available. We have dedicated Domestic Abuse Officers who is (sic) here to listen and provide any assistance that you need."
Support and advice is available to anyone, no matter your situation, from JUNO Women's Aid by calling 0808 800 0340 or Equation on 0115 960 5556.
