A local not for profit organisation has made a £300 donation to Hucknall Food Bank.

'Your Time' a weight loss body confidence and wellbeing support group, which began in September last year, nominated the food bank as a cause to support due to the amount of people in the local community currently using it.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Theresa Gandy, who founded the group said: "Your Time is a non-profit community interest company. All the profits go to the food bank. But obviously we're not in profit yet because we only started in September of 2021, so in the meantime we've been holding monthly raffles within the group with the ladies, and my daughter, Lisa, did a sponsored walk through February.

"The ladies have been a tremendous support in everything that I've asked them to do to support the food bank. They're not just there to lose weight it's more of a community now in Your Time, support for each other without guilt of food and helping the community as well which the ladies love to do."

On Monday (11 April) Theresa and Lisa presented a cheque to Yvonne Campbell, the manager of the Hucknall Food Bank outside its premises at Under One Roof on Vine Terrace.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News about the donation, Ms Campbell said: "It means a great deal. It means that I can go and buy food that we're short of. People give us a lot of food, which is brilliant, but sometimes we run out of certain things and to make up parcels we need to have so many of everything not just beans or just soup. We need things that people can use as a balance in their meals and tins that are going to last them a while that are not going to go off.

"We literally would not be able to function if it wasn't for people like Your Time, and schools, and individual people that donate to us regularly."

Lisa Gandy, Theresa's daughter walked 187 miles in the month of February, exceeding her target of 150, and managed to raise around £200 for the food bank.

She said: "I've been trying to do a lot more walking for my own health, it helps with my mindset.

"It's (Your Time) not in profit yet and she (Theresa) wants to give as much as she can to the food bank and all the women that go are really generous and do want to give, so I thought why not set yourself a challenge push myself a bit more with walking as well. Quite a few friends and family have got on board and then everyone at Your Time have got on board as well."

Theresa added: "I've got two groups, an evening one at St John's and a day one at John Godber Centre but I've only got about 25 people between the two so they've raised that in a small space of time because we've only started to do the raffle since the beginning of the year.

"I always say it's voluntary whether they give or not but they're behind me 100%. They feel while ever they can put the odd donation in, they will do.

"I used to be a weightwatcher leader for six years running 10 meetings around the local area. I had a total nervous breakdown so I know what the mental wellbeing side is like and how beating yourself up about your body size can affect it.

"I would say the ladies that come very much so they're changing their mentality but it takes a while. I think the difference with Your Time and the other groups is trusting to come and try something new."
