The Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is holding a social pub crawl around Hucknall today (Saturday 22 January).

Starting and finishing at The Station Hotel on Station Terrace at 1pm, the crawl will take in five other pubs in the town.

This event is open to everyone, not just CAMRA members, and people can join in for a short while or for the whole day.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Branch Secretary Andrew Ludlow said: "When it's been possible to, we organise events to encourage people to come out to visit pubs particularly this year due to the dramatic loss of income they suffered as a result of lockdown and people staying away from pubs.

"In the month of January there's been weekly tours, last week was round Sneinton. It's just Hucknall has recently produced its own real ale map and has got such a wealth of excellent pubs. You look there and see that there's an enormous number of really high quality pubs in Hucknall now.

"It's changed Hucknall completely. When the tram was first built, I think most people sort of said ah fantastic this means that we've got an opportunity to get into the city centre and visit some pubs and entertainment; now Hucknall is a point of destination. People from Nottingham, Bulwell etc are using the tram to actually travel to Hucknall and take advantage of the wide variety of interesting and pleasant pubs that it has.

"It's a very informal arrangement, the idea is simply to encourage people to come along, we're not necessarily expecting large turnouts because there's still the issues over the pandemic and people being a little reluctant but it's an informal opportunity to come and sample the delights of Hucknall; I certainly will raise a glass to it myself at some stage.

"The only requirement is you have to be prepared to enjoy yourself."

The itinerary for the day is as follows:

- Station Hotel, Station Terrace 1pm,

- Baker & Bear, Watnall Road 2.15pm,

- Beer Shack, Derbyshire Lane 3.15pm,

- Hideout, Yorke Street 4.30pm,

- Damos, Annesley Road 5.45pm,

- Byron's Rest, Baker Street 7pm,

-Return to Station Hotel around 9pm. Time to work out when the next tram is with an extra pint. For more information about Nottingham CAMRA see here.
