An investigation by Ashfield District Council's Community Safety Team into concerns from members of the public about an abandoned vehicle in Hucknall led to it being seized this week.

A post on the District Council's Facebook page said: "Following anonymous reports, the Council's Community Safety Team swiftly investigated concerns of an abandoned Vauxhall Astra in Hucknall.

"Upon inspection, Community Protection Officers found the vehicle had an expired MOT and expired Tax of January 2022 meaning the vehicle posed a risk to members of the public.

"Officers used their powers to seize the vehicle and arrange transport to take the vehicle to a local compound."

It is a legal requirement for all road going vehicles to be taxed and have a valid MOT, failure to do so can result in fines, and at worst seizure of the vehicle.

However, despite this, according to Autocar, in November last year, UK Government figures revealed one in 50 cars are untaxed.
