A community walk around greenbelt land in Hucknall is being held this Saturday (13 November).

The land at Whyburn Farm has been earmarked for a housing development containing 3000 homes.

This has caused widespread anger and opposition among local residents.

The walk is being organised by the Hucknall Against Whyburn Farm Development group.

Jemma Chambers, who founded the group's Facebook page which now has over 4000 members and spoke at the Public Meeting held at The John Godber Centre last month , is one of the organisers of the walk.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, she said: "As we come towards the end of the consultation period, I think it's really really important that people realise that the fight's not over and there's still lots of work to be done, that we maintain the traction we've got now with the local communities which will be easy to do if people realise what it is we're fighting for.

"It's interesting, a lot of people on the group know that Hucknall does not need and cannot cope with more housing but they don't actually know the site we're talking about.

"All of us have got different reasons for being on the site, the purpose of the walk is twofold. The first one is to show people exactly what it is we're fighting for, the space, the greenbelt, to keep awareness going, to give people something positive out of this experience because it's stressful and it's upsetting; and to go for a walk around this beautiful area will hopefully lift people's spirits as well.

"As we get towards the end of the walk, we're going to be selling some lovely homemade cakes, and teas and coffees we're going to have a very small raffle as well just to raise some much needed funds to continue the fight as we have bits and pieces we need to buy, leaflets, banners that sort of thing."

The walk will begin at 2:30pm. More details can be found here.
