There was a decent turnout at Hucknall's Titchfield Park for the screening of the King's Coronation yesterday (Saturday 5 May) despite the weather.

The event organised by Ashfield District Council was attended by hundreds of people as the town celebrated King Charles III's Coronation, the first of a British monarch for 70 years.

The service which took place at Westminster Abbey, and was televised across the world, was shown on a big screen in the park from 11am.

Following the conclusion of the ceremony, family film Paddington 2 was screened.

The free event which ran from 10am until 4pm boasted face painting and balloon models, inflatable slides and bouncy castles, a walkabout prince and princess, and a bustling market village.

The latter was made up of 45 market stalls offering a variety of products including plants, knitwear, jewellery, sweets, cakes, street food, dog accessories, pocket money toys, donuts, wax melts, crepes, soft toys, clothing, cheese, and personalised gifts.

The event proved popular in the first couple of hours in particular with a large volume of vehicles parking on the estate surrounding the park as people turned up from all over the town to see what was on offer.

However, a torrential downpour in the early afternoon curtailed the popularity of the event and sadly meant that for the last couple of hours, footfall was extremely limited.

Despite this, the view of people involved in the event was that it had been a successful day for the town.

Sheila Robinson along with her husband Ken, who head up the Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration Group had a stall at the event.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Sheila said: "In the morning, it was very good. It was lovely, there were loads of people, loads of children, it was a family day. And it was going really well until we got the heavy rain.

"I was pleased that so many people turned out for it. It was a nice atmosphere."
