Residents are invited to have their say on Ashfield District Council's proposed Parking Order 2023 before the Council launches a formal consultation.
The new order is proposing to increase the number of off-road parking spaces in the district and to ensure the fair usage of its car parking.
At the Council's Cabinet meeting the decision was made to hold an informal consultation period on the proposed Parking Order.
The new Parking Order 2023 is required to implement changes to the existing Parking Order and to cover the new car parks which will be created for Kirkby Leisure Centre and projects such as Fox Street.
Comments made will go to Cabinet in February where the decision to advance to a formal consultation will be made. Following the formal consultation, if the order is approved, it would come into force in December 2023.
The main sections of the Parking Order which affect Hucknall, are proposals to include additional land owned/managed by Ashfield District Council on Papplewick Green and to make the parking structure at Hucknall Leisure Centre the same as all other Council owned carparks. That would mean up to two hours free parking for customers and a cost of £2 to park for up to four hours. There is also the suggestion of introducing an overnight parking charge of £1 from 6pm to 6am in all Council owned carparks.
The full details of the proposal, can be viewed either by clicking here, or at the Council Offices on Urban Road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield (NG17 8DA) on Monday to Thursday between the hours of 8.45am and 4.45pm and on Fridays between 8.45am and 4.15pm (excluding the week commencing 26 December 2022, and 2nd January 2023 when the offices are closed).
Comments or objections to the proposals must be made in writing via email to [email protected] or addressed to the Director of Place and Communities at the Council offices. Comments made on social media will not be included.
Residents are asked to please state the grounds on which any comments or objections are made and ensure they arrive no later than Thursday 16 February 2023.
Councillor Samantha Deakin, Executive Lead Member for Parks, Town Centres and Environmental Services said: "The proposed order will increase the number of off-street parking places in Ashfield, improve fair use of the car parks, encourage turnover by regulating the parking restrictions, address the current issues at the leisure centres, meet the needs of blue badge holders, and maintain high quality public parking places for the community.
"It is vital that all residents have their say on the proposed order now to ensure we can take everyone's comments into account before plans are finalised for the formal consultation. The Council is committed to providing quality car parking and the new order will guarantee that we can continue to deliver."
