Photographers from Hucknall and across the district are encouraged to submit entries for the annual 'Discover Ashfield' photography competition which opened today (Monday 19 June).

Residents of all ages are invited to capture brilliant photos from across Ashfield, with £100 vouchers (£50 Arc cinema and £50 high street vouchers) on offer for the winners.

This year's categories are: "What you love about Ashfield", "Ashfield at Work" and a special category for "Under 16s" to enter. The closing date for entries to the competition is Friday 21 July.

The first category is for photographs of anything the photographer loves in Ashfield from a local park, statue or monument to people across the district.

The second category is aimed at capturing the many different work environments across Ashfield. For example, this could be an industrial setting, volunteering, or working outdoors such as in a garden.

The third category is a dedicated one for children under 16 to take photos of what they love about Ashfield, its people, or the places they love to visit.

A winner will be chosen for each category.

Entry is via Ashfield District Council's website which can be accessed by clicking here.

The Chair of Discover Ashfield, Martin Rigley, said: "The Discover Ashfield photography competition brings in some great images across Ashfield each and every year, that really showcase the great things our community do, we look forward to seeing what residents capture with this year's category choices."

Executive Lead for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing Chris Huskinson said: "It's exciting the competition is back for its fifth year, building on the success of previous years. The photos from last year were amazing and captured some of the great things we have in Ashfield."

"We want to encourage people to get out and discover new areas of the District they don't know so well. We are looking forward to seeing the entries this year and we hope the new categories will inspire you to join in."

Judging will take place after the closing date and the winners will be announced in the week beginning August 14.
