Fault with temporary traffic lights in Hucknall fixed after causing early morning chaos

By Tom Surgay 31st Mar 2022

A fault with a set of temporary traffic lights in Hucknall has now been fixed after causing chaos this morning (Wednesday 30 March).

There are currently three-way temporary traffic lights in place on Watnall Road and Farleys Lane.

Earlier today, the traffic light outside the Torkard Surgery was constantly on red causing gridlock and huge tailbacks in the area.

Following the issue being reported to him, Councillor John Wilmott urged energy bosses to sort the traffic lights out.

Councillor Wilmott said: "Residents have been in touch with Hucknall Councillors Dave Shaw, Lee Waters and myself all morning about the chaos. I was actually in an online meeting with highway's bosses anyway so I raised it there and then."

The fault was identified as the responsibility of Western Power, who apologised for the problem and promised to fix it as soon as possible which they duly did meaning that traffic is now flowing as it should in the area.

Speaking about the problem being resolved, Councillor Wilmott said: "I have just been on location and it has now been sorted. I'd like to thank the dozens of residents who got in touch with Councillor Dave Shaw, Lee Waters and myself to complain. I'd also like to thank Western Power for acting decisively and quickly to deal with the problem. They have agreed to carry out an investigation to ensure that procedures are in place to ensure problems like this are speedily resolved in the future."
