Firefighters were called to a skip fire on Portland Road in Hucknall yesterday afternoon (Sunday 5 September).

Smoke billowed across the town and filled the sky as the blaze raged at lunch time before it was extinguished by the fire crew.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call just before 1pm on Sunday 5 September to a large skip on fire at Portland Road in Hucknall. One fire engine from Stockhill Fire Station attended and a hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is not known."

This was the second big fire in Hucknall in the space of four days following a fire at the bottom of the Misk Hills on Thursday . The two incidents are not thought to be linked.
