Hucknall has moved a step closer to having a brand new health centre.
Plans to build a Cavell Centre, an "all under one roof" centre featuring GPs, health and wellbeing services and other in-community facilities, have been underway for some time.
However, one of the key stumbling blocks that has caused delays has been the inability to agree upon a suitable site for the building.
Until late last year, Piggins Croft car park in the town centre had been the preferred choice. Then, towards the end of the year the former Seven Stars pub, in West Street, emerged as the favourite location.
Since, that announcement, there hadn't been any further updates issued about the Cavell Centre.
That was until last night when Paddy Tipping took to social media site Twitter and somewhat cryptically tweeted: "I've been pushing with others for a much needed new health centre in Hucknall for many years. At last things are moving on but we've got a way to go. Thanks to everyone involved in the helpful discussions."
The former Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner and Labour MP for Sherwood the constituency that includes Hucknall, is involved in the process in his role as Chair of the East Midlands LIFT companies which is providing advice and consultancy.
When asked by Hucknall Nub News to provide further details, he said: "All parties agree that Hucknall is long overdue for new health facilities and it is a priority. Detailed discussions have taken place about size and services. Various sites have been considered. Possible funding arrangements are being explored carefully. Final decisions will be made shortly.
"Much has been agreed but more work is still required. However good progress is being made."
