Diverse Academies Trust has closed all 14 of the schools that are part of its trust today (Tuesday 19 July) due to the hot weather.

This includes The Holgate Academy on Hillcrest Drive in Hucknall.

The Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, which it jointly manages in partnership with the National Church of England Academy, is also closed.

Temperatures are expected to reach a sweltering 40 degrees in Hucknall today, putting it on course to be the town's hottest day on record.

A statement from the Diverse Academies Trust, released last night read: "The health and safety of our children and young people is of paramount importance. Today, we have experienced exceptionally hot weather conditions and the extreme heat is set to worsen tomorrow.

"Following a review of our site, and in the interests of our academy community, we have taken the decision as a Trust to close all of our academies tomorrow for one day only.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but we hope you understand that the safety of the pupils and our staff team must come first."

All of their academies will reopen tomorrow (Wednesday 20 July) when temperatures are expected to only hit highs of between 25 and 27 degrees.
