A Hucknall campaign group is holding two community events tomorrow (Saturday 9 July) at The Horse and Groom Pub in Linby to raise funds for their cause.

Hucknall Against Whyburn Farm Development (HAWFD) group are opposed to 3000 houses being built on the green belt land, an idea which was proposed by Ashfield District Council in their Local Plan which was published late last year.

The plan caused a huge amount of controversy in the local community and has faced a lot of opposition. Within a few days of being announced HAWFD's Facebook group was founded and less than a year on it has just under 4500 members. In the meantime, the local plan has been put on pause.

The first event being held tomorrow is a dog show which will take place from 1:30pm until 3:30pm. Registrations open at 1pm and there will be ten categories to choose to enter plus a 'Best in Show' award. It costs just £2 a class. Rosettes will be awarded to the top three in each category with certificates down to fifth place.

This is followed by a Hog Roast and an evening of live music from 6:30pm until 9:30pm. Local Councillor and talented musician Phil Rostance will be performing, along with other local artists. Tickets start from £5 and must be booked in advance. They can be purchased until noon tomorrow online or from the pub until 3:30pm tomorrow.

Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, a spokesperson for HAWFD said: "The fun dog show came from the fact that the area of Whyburn Farm is used by a considerable amount of dog walkers. And it's a large open space that Hucknall residents and their four-legged friends enjoy. So as a result, we came up with the idea of a fun dog show, it's an opportunity to get together and raise money for the campaign and also to enjoy a summer evening while listening to music and raising money for our fight fund."
