A band formed and fronted by a Hucknall resident will play at the Splendour Festival this summer.

'The Black White', was started by Joel Goddon last year, whilst he was completing his undergraduate degree in music at Nottingham Trent University.

The band released their first track 'landslide' in May before 'She's so fake' followed in October. Both hits were written by Mr Goddon.

They played a number of gigs towards the end of last year and built up a loyal social media following in a relatively short space of time.

Now Joel, alongside bandmates Tom Owen-Anthony and James Lane, will play the Confetti Stage on the second day (Sunday 24 July) of the two day summer festival which takes place at Wollaton Park.

It will be the first time that the event, which started in 2008, will take place since 2019 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News about the opportunity to play at the popular festival, Mr Goddon said: "I'm buzzing to be fair. I've been before when I was a lot younger and watched people play on there and never really thought it'd be the sort thing of thing I'd actually do. And from it to come from songs I've actually written, it feels mental."

The festival, which has a capacity of 25,000, will be headlined by Richard Ashcroft on the first day (Saturday 23 July) and Anne-Marie on the second.

Joel's band will share the stage with acts including Ocean Colour Scene, Happy Mondays and Example.

They will perform a mixture of their well known singles, some newly written music and their cover versions of classic tracks.

Mr Goddon added: "It's incomprehensible in the sense that we'll be on the same stage as artists like Example who's such a well established artist (who has) been releasing music (for) so many years. The amount of stuff he's probably done to get to where he is now, it's crazy to think not on an achievement level but in terms of right then and there, you're almost equals with these people that you've looked up to and admired."
