Hucknall born Joe Worrall finishes Nottingham Forest's league match against Stoke in goal in bizarre finish
Hucknall born Joe Worrall ended up donning the goalkeeping jersey and gloves for the final few minutes of Saturday's 2-2 home draw against Stoke City.
The central defender, whose journey to a career in football included playing for Hucknall Sports in various age categories, had to play between the sticks from the 85th minute.
This came after number one goalkeeper Brice Samba was dismissed for hitting out at Stoke striker Steven Fletcher.
The Reds were unable to bring another goalkeeper on as they had already made all three of their substitutions during the game.
Worrall's first task was to face Lewis Baker's penalty which had been awarded for Samba's moment of ill-discipline.
The former Chelsea academy player kept his cool to send Worrall the wrong way and slotted the ball into the net to give Stoke a 2-1 lead, and what looked at that late stage, a certain three points.
However, Forest dug deep, and Ryan Yates' stoppage time header earned them a share of the points to send The City Ground into raptures and keep them firmly in the play-off picture.
After the match, Worrall took to Twitter and posted two photos side by side, one of him as a young child in a goalkeeping kit when he played for his first team, Kimberley Miners Welfare, and the second of him in the Forest goalkeeping shirt from Saturday's game. It was simply captioned: 'how it started how it's going.'
Worrall's next game for Forest which will see him return to his customary playing position of defence, sees The Reds travel to the South Coast to play second placed AFC Bournemouth on Friday evening (18 February).
