A boxing club in Hucknall has been awarded a £500 grant from two local councillors.

Hucknall Boys Amateur Boxing Club based on Peveril Street, just off Annesley Road received the donation from Ashfield Independent Councillors Lee Waters and John Wilmott.

The money, part of the Councillor's County Divisional fund, will be used to improve facilities at the not-for-profit boxing club.

The money was welcomed by Katie Yemm, one of the volunteers who runs the popular club. She said: "We'd like to thank councillors for the kind donation of £500. The donation will help towards keeping the club running and we are excited what the future can bring, none of this would be possible without donations like this.

"All the volunteers at Hucknall Boys are so passionate about helping children from nine upwards to tackle obesity, low self-esteem, issues with controlling anger, and bullying. The support from donations such as this has made it possible for us to keep doing what we love."

Hucknall boys boxing sessions encourages children from the ages of nine to young adults to participate in a sport that will help with self-confidence, obesity and much more.

They provide a safe environment where members can learn a new skill and is a great opportunity to connect with new people who share the same interest. They boast three qualified England boxing trainers with years of experience. The sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday between 5pm and 7pm.

Councillor Lee Waters said: "The club is extremely popular and both Councillor Wilmott and I are delighted to have supported it. We are extremely passionate about supporting and investing in youth provision. We were impressed with how this wonderful club is run. They help our young people with their health and fitness and state of mind. It's an amazing place that does so much for Hucknall. The club works hard to ensure that all their lessons are affordable and accessible to all."
