Hucknall's Christmas lights switch on takes place tonight (Wednesday 30 November) in the town centre between 4pm and 7:30pm.

Here at Hucknall Nub News we know lots of our readers are excited about the festivities and will be planning to go along.

We've put together a simple guide to the event and a few tips on how to make the most out of the festival.

Road closures and parking

Baker Street will be closed to vehicles from 12pm until 10pm. There will be free parking all day in Piggins Croft, no tickets are required – there will be signs on the machines stating that it's free parking.

Main event

The Christmas lights switch on will take place at 7pm with Chairman of Ashfield District Council, Councillor David Walters doing the honours.

Other entertainment

The line-up and timings for the main stage are as follows:

4pm – Holgate Primary School

4:30pm – Flying High Academy Choir

5pm – Phase one School of Dance

5:30pm – Believe Academy

6pm – Torkard Ensembles

6:30pm – Cllr Phil Rostance

7pm – Light Switch on

7:10pm – Ziggy Pop

There will be a few small fun fair rides, free face painting, Anna and Elsa (walkabout characters), stilt walking, reindeer, and over 60 market stalls and catering vans.

Away from the market

Central Methodist Church, on Baker Street (opposite the market), is opening at 5pm and will be serving tea and coffee (for a very small charge). Torkard Choir will then be performing in the church from around 7pm.

The Church of St Mary Magdalene is hosting the opening of the annual tree festival. The church is also serving tea and coffee.

An indoor Christmas Market is being held in The John Godber Centre on Ogle Street. It is recommended that the market is accessed via the rear car park entrance. One of their bars will be open from 4pm until 8pm serving hot, cold and alcoholic refreshments.

The Rotary Club's Santa sleigh will also be present and collecting monetary donations for charity.

Nearby bars will also be open, and some are planning to serve Christmas themed refreshments.

With all of this on offer, Hucknall's Christmas lights switch on is not to be missed.
