Hucknall church inviting local residents to weekly community soup and a roll lunch
A church in Hucknall that hosts a weekly community soup and a roll lunch, is looking to raise awareness of the event.
East Side Methodist Church, situated just off Bestwood Road on the Butler's Hill estate started hosting the lunches in September last year, as part of its aim to offer itself and its facilities to the residents living in the local area.
Opening at 11.30am for people to come and chat together over a hot drink, a lunch of two different soups and a bread roll is served from 12pm till 1pm. So far, they have offered Pea and Ham, Vegetable, Carrot and Coriander, Leak and Potato, Tomato and Scotch Broth. It is a chance for people to come together, especially in the days of social isolation and rising fuel costs, to share food and friendship. Donations are accepted to cover the basic costs.
The church is keen to ensure that people who would really benefit from the community lunch know all about it and don't miss out.
Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub news, Rev John Wiseman, the minister at the church said: "We hope that this is just the first of several innovations at East Side Methodist Church.
"We already have a coffee morning every Wednesday between 10am and 12 noon plus activities for the children / youth of the area on a Wednesday evening.
"So far, the Thursday Community Lunch is attracting between 6 and 14 local residents but we could cope with up to 20. Following a proposed redevelopment of our kitchen in the coming months we hope to be able to extend the number of activities / groups / space that we are able to offer the local community."
