Hucknall West County Councillor David Shaw has slammed the decision of Nottinghamshire County Council to go ahead with building new offices on the edge of the town.
Councillor Shaw is a long term critic of the Conservative-run Council's plans to spend money on offices he claims they don't need.
Councillor Shaw, of the Ashfield Independents, accused the council of paying lip service to the review. He previously called the review "…farcical."
He said: "There's just no need (for the offices). We have a new 'hybrid' policy at County Hall. This means that far more council workers will be based largely from home. There's no point in building new offices that will be largely empty.
"Independent Councillors forced this review in their opposition role in County Hall. With the Council's debt approaching £600million, it's critical to scrutinise every penny of spending.
"This wasn't a proper review – residents who see their Council Tax rising year on year have been treated like idiots.
"Ask anybody in towns like Hucknall and they'd tell you that they would prefer this money to be spent on fixing our broken roads and pavements.
"We will be looking to remove the recommendations of the "Investment in Nottinghamshire" scheme at the next Economic Development and Asset Management Committee on November 2 and get rid this wasteful spending. The Conservatives are borrowing this cash just to save face.
"The rise in the cost of their proposed new offices at Top Wighay Farm, Hucknall is also a concern. It's already gone up £1million at the same time the cost of Gedling Access Road has gone up by £5.3million."
