Hucknall Fire Station's '12 days of Christmas' campaign is returning this year following its success 12 months ago.

The Christmas initiative saw the station ask the local community to create food parcels to support the local foodbank, Under One Roof, which is based on Vine Terrace.

The firefighters were met with such a generous response that they were able to provide 350 bags worth of food.

Throughout the year they have continued to help Under One Roof with regular weekly donations. However, to help them build their stock and get enough food for individuals over Christmas, firefighters have devised another 12 days of Christmas 'plan' for people to follow.

Starting with day one being a bag for life, firefighters are encouraging the community to donate one new item a day to go in their bag.

After the 12 days are complete, crews will set off to collect donations from various locations within Hucknall.

On-Call Firefighter and donation organiser, Nick Pratt, said: "Last year so many families and individuals who were struggling received hampers and donations from our local community and these made an enormous difference to them, especially at Christmas.

"We understand that things may still be pretty tough for people, so in addition to the 12 days of Christmas, we are asking for people to donate selection boxes. A single £1 selection box will put a massive smile on a child's face.

"We will be visiting schools who have agreed to take part on Friday 10 December and we aim to collect all donations on Saturday 11 December this year."

Marcus Pratt. who is also organising this initiative, said: "The generosity of our local community and the uptake this year has been amazing so far, so thank you to everyone who is already taking part and for the constant support for campaigns like this one.

"We understand not everyone can take part, so all we ask is for people to spread the word so we can make a difference to those in need."
