Several firefighters from across Nottinghamshire, including a crew from Hucknall Fire Station, are taking part in a training exercise at Newstead Abbey today.

Visitors to the major tourist attraction, the former home of Lord Byron, which is just over five miles from Hucknall, were told via social media 'not to be alarmed' if they saw a high number of emergency vehicles in the grounds today.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "As a key heritage site in the county we are at Newstead Abbey today to test our plans for if there was an incident there. Firefighters are testing breathing apparatus (BA) procedures and water relay to the building.

"We are working with our partners at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service on this exercise and thank them for their support."

It was confirmed that along with the Hucknall firefighters, crews from Arnold, Stockhill and Blidworth are in attendance as well as the Command Support Unit.

Did you see the exercise taking place and manage to snap a good photo or two? If so, please send them to [email protected].
