Firefighters carrying out their final inspections after extinguishing a house fire in Bulwell last month were amazed to discover a cat had survived the blaze.

Hucknall firefighters were one of six crews who attended the scene on the afternoon of Saturday 20 November.

The occupiers were not in the house during the incident, which following an investigation has been deemed an electrical fire, and no one was hurt.

With the fire extinguished and the scene secured, the firefighters, including Watch Manager at Arnold Fire Station, Nick Owen, did one last sweep of the scene when the cat emerged unscathed from the debris.

Mr Owen, said: "Myself and another team member were carrying out our final inspections of the property. This was to ensure that there were no pockets of heat which could reignite the fire.

"I was about to close a window in the property when I found a very cold and dirty cat appear from a gap between chest of drawers and some debris.

"This cat had survived a fire! Not only had the roof caved in on the property but the cat survived many fire fighting activities with hose reels and the ALP (Aerial Ladder Platform) which had been used to put more water onto the fire.

"I picked up the cat and she seemed glad of a reassuring cuddle! She stayed cuddling me until her owners came to collect her.

"I hope the family of this property are ok, and I am extremely glad the cat is back and safe and sound where she belongs!"
