Ashfield District Council is offering free weekend parking in its car parks throughout the month of December.

In Hucknall, this means that motorists in the town will be able to park in Piggins Croft, Yorke Street and The Market Place car parks on Saturdays and Sundays without charge during December.

Usually, the car parks only offer free parking for up to two hours and a ticket must be displayed at all times. However, the council have waived this fee at weekends for the entire month as part of their 'commitment to town centre regeneration.'

Councillor Lee Waters, who represents Hucknall North on the District Council, said: "This is something we have done for a few years now and is really appreciated by residents and retailers alike.

"As a Council, we are determined to do everything possible to attract footfall into Hucknall Town Centre. This includes one of biggest Christmas Festivals ever, two food and drink festivals and various other events.

"Why go to the trouble and pain of paying through the roof to park for a couple of hours in Nottingham - when you can park for free in Hucknall?"
