A Hucknall man, along with a group of colleagues, is taking on The Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for a local children's charity.

Andrew Bailey who works for Magnet Kitchens in Mansfield will embark on the trek with around 20 colleagues on Saturday 30 April with the aim of raising at least £1500 for PASIC.

Founded in 1977 as the Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children, PASIC offers emotional, social, practical and financial support for families of children and young people with cancer in the East Midlands.

The fundraiser has been organised by Jamie Lynch and Ross Johnson from Mansfield, who both work in the Projects team of the business.

Last year, Magnet employees raised over £2500 for Nottingham charity Forever Stars by walking 40 miles across the County in a day.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Mr Lynch said: "I thought I really want to do another charity event because I quite enjoyed doing the (last) event, I enjoyed organising it. Ultimately, it's great to raise money for something local, for something that I would deem a really worthy cause and also the fact it's a local charity.

"I've got children myself and as a parent it's the most frightening thing that I could possibly imagine life could throw at you, as a parent, that your child would get a terminal illness, it's horrific for the kids to go through but the rest of the family it's terrible as well, I can't think of anything worse you'd rather it be yourself than anything happen to your kids."

Once they had researched the charity and spoken to its leadership team, they were in no doubt they wanted to nominate PASIC as their chosen charity for the event.

The challenge will see the group embark on a 24 mile hike in the Yorkshire Dales, taking in the three highest summits in the area: Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough.

Mr Lynch decided on The Three Peaks having done it last year purely for enjoyment in his spare time. He estimates that it took him around 10 hours and he thought it would make the perfect challenge for this year's fundraiser.

"Once we did it last year, when I thought of the charity event this year, I thought that'd be really good, it's a tough day out, it's a lot of walking and you're going up the three summits but it's a really good day out because the Yorkshire Dales is so scenic.

"I wanted to do something that was going to be difficult but not too extreme that it was going to put off a lot of people. We needed to find a happy medium; it's about the right level of challenge for what we want."

Anyone interested in making a donation to the cause can do so via the group's Just Giving page which can be found here.
