A micropub in Hucknall has won a prestigious annual Nottingham Pub of the Year award.

Byron's Rest on Baker Street scooped the 2022 Nottingham CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) "LocAle" Pub of the Year title in the competition's eleventh year.

In the Nottingham area there are over 160 pubs that have been awarded "LocAle" accreditation. This is gained by stocking at least one good quality locally brewed beer or cider.

Over the course of the year the public are invited to nominate pubs from the geographic area and this produced twelve finalists. This year the finalists were:

  • Bath Inn, Sneinton
  • Bird Hide, Attenborough
  • Bull's Well, Bulwell
  • Byron's Rest, Hucknall
  • Cross Keys, Nottingham
  • Old Green Dragon, Oxton
  • Organ Grinder, Canning Circus
  • Plough, Radford
  • Poppy & Pint, West Bridgford
  • Royal Oak, Radcliffe on Trent
  • Tap & Growler, Eastwood
  • Vat & Fiddle, Nottingham

The pubs were visited by 16 judges between Friday 8 July and Sunday 14 August awarding scores for the quality and the range of locally produced beers and ciders.

The judges visited the pubs on different days and at different times to ensure that scores were a true reflection of each pub.

"As one would expect the finalists were all high-quality pubs – having already won through from the preliminary rounds and the winner therefore had to be outstanding", said Andrew Ludlow, Nottingham CAMRA LocAle Officer.

He added: "Byron's Rest is to be commended on its consistency and high-quality beers and ciders"

The award is to be presented on Tuesday 6 September at 8.00pm and all are welcome to attend.

On being told that the pub had won, Richard Darrington, Landlord and owner of Byron's Rest said. "It is great to be recognised and it is an honour to support Nottinghamshire breweries, brewers/brewsters and local cider producers. We will always look to support 'LocAle' before looking further afield.

"Thanks to our team and lovely customers and friends and a massive thank you to the judges and we hope that you will enjoy future visits to Byron's Rest".
