One of Nottingham's trams has a striking new livery to create a 'green symbol' of the city's ambitious 'Carbon Neutral Nottingham 2028' climate goals.

It was unveiled on Monday (29 November) by NET, who operates the tram network in the city, and Nottingham City Council.

The newly wrapped tram features an eye-catching design based on Nottingham City Council's #CarbonNeutral2028 campaign focused on becoming the UK's first carbon neutral city by 2028.

The tram was unveiled today at NET's Wilkinson Street depot by two young pupils - Alfie Daniels and Ariadne Van Krimpen - from Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School, who have been selected as the city's first 'Trambassadors', acting as an important community link for NET and providing STEM-based learning opportunities for children.

The tram is already playing an important role in the city's climate goals with NET's new Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy outlining how the tram is helping to keep millions of passengers moving across the city with a clean, sustainable transport network powered by 100% green, renewable energy.

Tim Hesketh, CEO of Tramlink said: "Nottingham is leading the charge in tackling climate change so this newly wrapped tram will create a 'green symbol' of the city's clean growth ambitions.

"We are proud to be a central part of the 'Carbon Neutral 2028' campaign and delighted that our young Trambassadors helped unveil the new look tram as we work together to build a greener future for Nottingham."

Councillor Sally Longford, Deputy Leader of the City Council said: "I'm thrilled to be unveiling the Carbon Neutral 2028 tram today.

"Creating partnerships has a vital role in Nottingham's ambitions to be the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028 – and NET play a pivotal part in helping us reduce the impact of transport, an area that accounted for 31% of the city's CO2 emissions in 2019. This newly wrapped tram will allow us to raise awareness of CN28, as it carries residents, commuters, and visitors across the city and beyond.

"Thank you to all of the sponsors who've contributed to this amazing project."

'Trambassadors' Alfie Daniels and Ariadne Van Krimpen attended the event on behalf of Alderman Pounder Infant and Nursery School.

Alfie Daniels said: "I am really pleased to be a Trambassador because I want people to help the environment by not using their car. It has been really interesting to learn more about the Tram and the people that work at the depot."

Ariadne Van Krimpen said, "I'm the school's Environment Minister so I'm really excited about the green tram. Seeing it new at the depot is really special."

The new wrap design has been installed on a tram that had an out-of-date wrapping in need of replacement.

The new tram wrapping has been funded by NET together with sponsorship from a range of key business and organisations from across the city.

The current tram system, which has a line where services start and terminate in Hucknall, opened in 2004.
