Hucknall racing driver Ruben Hage enjoyed the most successful day of his motorsport career so far last Friday (2 June), when he took a hat-trick of wins in one day at Silverstone.

The 18-year-old claimed a clean sweep of Ginetta GT Championship wins for the day to well and truly kickstart his 2023 campaign, after a mixed start to the season.

The drivers competing in the series contested a total of seven races across the weekend as part of the British Automobile Racing Club's (BARC) Ginetta G-Fest, a celebration of 65 years since the Ginetta brand was founded.

The first race was rescheduled from earlier in the season when torrential rain during the championship's first visit to Silverstone saw one of the races postponed. Ruben had secured pole for that race and so assumed his position at the head of the grid first thing on Friday morning.

Despite a decent start when the lights went out, he found himself shuffled back to second after the first couple of corners thanks to an excellent start from series points leader Luke Reade.

However, Hage remained unflustered and settled into a good early race rhythm shadowing Reade's every move. It was soon obvious that Hage had more pace, and he made a clean move stick on lap three, a third of the way through the race. He then eased away to take the chequered flag by just under two seconds to claim his first win of the season.

Qualifying for the scheduled two races of the day followed, and undoubtedly buoyed by his earlier victory, Hage stormed to a double pole position well over half a second clear of the pack. He converted both to wins with dominant lights to flag drives that oozed class and raw speed.

The wins came as a much needed boost after a difficult meeting at his home circuit of Donington Park during the previous round. A technical issue meant he was forced to start the first race of the weekend from the pit lane, having initially qualified second. Undeterred, he produced a spirited drive to claim a podium finish in third. However, a minor pre-race infringement saw him barred from competing the following day in which two races were held costing him a huge amount of points.

Although the Silverstone victories couldn't undo what had happened previously, they went some way to atoning for the previous disappointment.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News about his hat-trick of wins, Ruben said: "To walk away from Silverstone with three race wins from three pole positions was the perfect way to bounce back from the disaster at Donington the week before.

"As a result of the issues that weekend at Donington we knew we're out of the championship fight and that all we could do is just give our everything in the following races. Thankfully, we were able to do just that in the best way possible - by picking up a hat-trick of wins. With this momentum our next round at Snetterton is looking a promising one."

Ruben returns to action at the Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk in a week's time (17/18 June).
