Hucknall secondary school secures 'good' Ofsted grade following April inspection
A secondary school in Hucknall has been graded 'good' by Ofsted.
The National Church of England Academy on Annesley Road has held a 'good' grading since 2010 which predates its conversion to an academy.
The latest inspection, held in April, found the school to be 'good' across all five major areas that the reporting process covers. These are: the quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; personal development; leadership and management; and sixth form provision.
The report stated: "Staff have high expectations of all pupils. This includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Most pupils rise to meet these high expectations. Pupils' behaviour is calm and orderly. Pupils are respectful to each other and to staff.
"Pupils respect the school's Christian character. Their actions demonstrate the school values of achievement, respect, charity, humility, wisdom and service. Pupils learn about the virtue of wisdom and how this relates to the school's values. Pupils say that bullying is rare and that they trust staff to take swift actions to address any bullying issues. Pupils say that they feel happy and safe at the school."
The consistency and subject knowledge of the teaching staff was also praised.
Martin Brailsford, Headteacher of the academy said: "This report is great news for the whole of our community and is an acknowledgement that everyone should be extremely proud of. It is an accurate and fair reflection of where we are right now, with many fantastic aspects of our Academy highlighted and the areas for development being what we had already identified and shared with the inspection team as things we are improving.
"The inspection lasted two days, however it is reflective of what we do on a day-to-day basis over a sustained period of time and that is what matters. Students feel safe, happy and are getting a good education here. That is what every child deserves and we are pleased National students experience that. Ultimately that is down to the incredible professionalism and performance of our dedicated staff and the support we receive from our community.
"Well done to everyone associated with National Church of England Academy!"
Interestingly, one of the areas listed for improvement was communication with parents.
The report stated: "Leaders have not ensured that communication with parents and carers is always as effective as it could be. As a result, parents do not always know the good work the school is doing. Leaders should ensure communication with parents and carers is more effective."
However, this was listed in the section of the report advising how the school could further improve to move it closer to an 'outstanding' grade.
