A road in Hucknall which was once branded the UK's 'worst road' is set to be resurfaced in October.

Brookside, just off Broomhill Road, will be fully resurfaced between Monday 3 October and Friday 7 October, it has been confirmed.

The road has been the subject of an ongoing battle between Hucknall Councillor Lee Waters and Nottinghamshire County Council who are in charge of maintaining and fixing the county's roads.

Ashfield Independent, Councillor Waters, who represents Hucknall South on the County Council, made the road his number one priority in terms of highways when he was elected last year. Earlier this year, the Council reacted to this by attempting to repair the road using ViaFix, a job which the Hucknall Councillor described as a 'pig's ear.'

The County Council later issued an apology and promised to correct the error.

This looks to have culminated in the news that the whole road will be resurfaced in October.

Councillor Waters has welcomed the proposed works. He said: "I have raised the state of Brookside time and time again in meetings. There has been bad headline after bad headline about the state of the road.  At times, it has felt like a soap opera in itself. The County Council have been out numerous times and patched the road up. I have continually raised the botch jobs with them – Brookside must have cost a fortune over the years. I am pleased that once and for all – it will finally be sorted. We will continue to fight to fix Hucknall's broken roads and pavements."
