Ashfield District Council's Big Spring Clean returns later this month.

This year will see 16 schools and local businesses get involved as well as increased community litter picks.

Residents in Hucknall and across Ashfield will be able to dispose of an extra bag of household waste, take advantage of the Flying Skips – bin lorries for disposal of bulky items and household waste, take part in community litter picks, and from April, book their free bulky waste collections of up to three items.

Starting from next Monday (20 February), residents in Sutton and Kirkby will be able to leave an extra bag of household waste with their usual bin collection that week.

The Flying Skips will be available around Sutton on Saturday 25 February. During the same week there will be litter picks taking place including ones at The Oval Park, Carsic Estate; Kings Mill Reservoir, Sutton; and Brierley Forest Park, Huthwaite.

During the week commencing 27 February there will be litter picks in Kirkby and the Rurals at Warwick Park, Kirkby, Selston Country Park, and the Larwood Estate.

Hucknall residents will have to wait slightly longer, with the Flying Skips not being based in the town until Saturday 4 March.

The residents, along with people living in the Rurals, will be able to leave their extra bag of waste out with their bins on the week commencing 6 March. The litter picks in Hucknall include Kenbrook Road, Titchfield Park, and Lime Tree Road.

The Flying Skips will then return to Kirkby and the Rurals on Saturday 11 March.

Free bulky waste collections start again in April. The scheme allows residents to book their collection based on where they live with four opportunities spread across the year.

Free bulky waste collections can be booked by clicking here or by phoning 01623 450 000.

The Council is also delivering planters made of wood donated from Door-Stop in Huthwaite, compost from Pro-grow, and vegetable and flower seeds to 16 schools in Ashfield.

Due to new Government regulations, domestic upholstered seating, such as sofas and armchairs, cannot be accepted in the Flying Skips this year. They must be disposed of via bulky waste collections only.

Councillor Samantha Deakin, Executive Lead Member for Parks, Town Centres and Environmental Services, said: "We are so excited and proud to say that we are bringing the BIG Ashfield Spring Clean to our District again. This year, it is the biggest and best yet. We know that this year the ability to safely dispose of extra rubbish will really benefit residents."

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, commented: "The BIG Spring Clean is always our most popular campaign of the year, so we are thrilled that we are able to offer an even bigger and improved spring clean this year.

"It's campaigns like the Big Spring Clean and our all year round work that is the central reason why reports of fly-tipping continue to go down year on year. The Council is serious about cleaning up and putting pride back into our District and the spring clean is just one of the ways that we are doing that."
