A performing arts group from Hucknall has been given a financial boost by Nottinghamshire County Councillor John Wilmott to help support ongoing costs.

Councillor Wilmott presented the Lovelace Theatre Group with a cheque for £650 to continue their excellent work across Hucknall.

The group have just completed three nights of Harold Brighouse's comedy 'Hobson's Choice' at the John Godber Centre on Ogle Street to packed audiences.

The production was directed by Hatty Hunt-Blow, and produced by Roger Knowles.

The cast included Sammi Yates as Maggie, Emily Giles as Alice, Elly West as Vicky, Sam Burbage as Henry Hobson, Gareth Ellis as Willie Mossop, John Leefe as Fred Beenstock, Collette Wong as Albert Prosser, Steve Beeton as Tubby Wadlow, Richard Alton as Jim Heeler, Nick English as Doctor MacFarlane, Laura Short as Mrs Hepworth, and Chloe Brearley as Ada Figgins.

The pianist and musical arrangement was by Edward Clarke. Whilst behind the scenes were: Hanna Sowter, Daniel Knight, Linda Mayes, Pete McFarlane, Lawrence Short, Nicola Giles, Joe Willis, Lucas Ward, and Chris Knowles.

Councillor Wilmott, who represents Hucknall North on the county council for the Ashfield Independents, used the opportunity of this latest production to present the group with a cheque for £650 from his Nottinghamshire County Council's Divisional Fund. This is a pot of money each County Councillor can distribute to local good causes and community groups.

Councillor Wilmott said: "The Lovelace Theatre Group are inspirational. Hobson's Choice was an amazing choice of play. It was a very professional performance before an appreciative audience. I feel proud that we have such an amazing organisation as the Lovelace Theatre Group based here in Hucknall. They cater for all age groups and I was proud to present them with a cheque towards their ongoing costs. It just goes to show that amateur dramatics is alive and well in Hucknall. I can't wait for the next production."

The Lovelace Theatre Group puts on three productions a year at the John Godber Centre and has a long history dating back to the late 1960s.
