Hucknall Town has thrown its weight behind a campaign to help collect sleeping bags for Ukrainian refugees.

The football club announced yesterday that it would be supporting Sleep1000, a campaign fronted by Hucknall businessman Ben Marshall and Nottingham Forest footballer Joe Worrall.

A statement on the club's website read: "Hucknall Town FC and their Youth set up Hucknall Warriors FC are uniting to give support to a local support group helping Ukrainian Refugees seeking safety in Poland.

"Hucknall Town FC will be accepting new and used sleeping bags and blankets at our next home match on Saturday 19th March with a bucket collection also for supporters to pledge any help they are able to give.

"More details will follow in the next few days and we hope Yellows supporters can help with the target to get 1000 sleeping bags to Refugees who have nowhere to sleep."

Sleep1000 is aiming to gather 1000 sleeping bags for Ukrainian refugees fleeing the conflict in their country following the Russian invasion a fortnight ago.

The campaign is accepting donations of new or nearly new thermal sleeping bags and blankets as well as monetary contributions.

The group then intends to drive the donations across to Krakow in Poland on Monday 21 March.
