Hucknall Town battled back from three goals down to earn a draw against Gedling Miners Welfare and preserve their unbeaten home record in the league at Watnall Road this season.

Goals from Josh Thornton, Greg Tempest and former Yellow Ruben Wiggins-Thomas saw the Miners race into a three goal lead inside the first twenty minutes.

However, Hucknall mounted a stunning comeback. It began with the award of a penalty just after the half hour mark when Eugene Francis was felled inside the box. Craig Westcarr sent the Gedling goalkeeper the wrong and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

The deficit was reduced to one just before half time when a free kick from the right caused chaos in the Gedling box and Jordan Phillips lashed home the loose ball.

With just over twenty minutes remaining Francis got the equaliser. The ball bounced around the Gedling box and he reacted fastest to flick it home. The visitors were somewhat aggrieved as they felt there was a handball by a Hucknall attacker in the build up. However, these protests were waved away.

Hucknall could even have won it late on as Westcarr hit the post and Francis shot just over but an entertaining match finished all square which seemed a fair result.

After the match, Hucknall Town manager Andy Graves spoke exclusively to Hucknall Nub News. He said: "I think overall we created more chances and we were probably unlucky not to actually come back and nick it but fair play to Gedling they took their chances.

"They've (Hucknall players) all put their hands up in there which again I appreciate that but we did have to have a few words. Some will say that's a point saved, I think it's two definitely lost especially after Saturday's game but that's football; we didn't lose! We're making life hard for ourselves, when we cut out the silly mistakes that have crept in, I'm looking forward to the first clean sheet. We'll go again on Saturday."
