The new neighbourhood inspector, responsible for local policing in Ashfield, which includes Hucknall, started in the post this week.

Inspector Jon Hewitt has replaced Inspector Mark Dickson who has been promoted to Chief Inspector.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Inspector Hewitt said: "I'm really pleased to come to be the neighbourhood inspector for Ashfield. It's an area of policing that I have worked in before as a PC, as what we call a beat manager, the local PC for an area which I did up at Worksop at Bassetlaw.

"Another time earlier in my career, I've been the neighbourhood sergeant and then I went off to work in custody for a couple of years and then I've come back to neighbourhood.

"Neighbourhood as a whole is an area that I've got a lot of interest in, working with local communities and partners to try and design out issues in the local area."

Speaking about his predecessor, Chief Inspector Dickson, he said: "He's obviously had a big impact in the area, been very proactive, particularly with regards to the issue of drugs in the area so I'm looking to continue with that. I want to wish him well in his move and promotion to the public protection team."

One of Inspector Hewitt's key priorities regarding the town of Hucknall is tackling anti-social behaviour in the area.

"In Hucknall, speaking to residents and my local team, I think anti-social behaviour at the moment may be a bit of a concern. So we'll be looking at engagement with the children, what can we do to keep them busy so they're not causing or being seen to cause anti-social behaviour."

Asked about the biggest challenge he'll face in the role, he added: "I think thinking of innovative ways to design out issues.

"If you look at the cycle of crime rather than always reacting to something occurring, what I'm keen for my team to do is get in front of it and try and prevent the same issues happening time and time again for the community."
