The Arc Cinema in Hucknall is hoping to help residents combat the winter blues by offering discounted tickets all day next Monday (16 January).
The discount will see tickets cost just £5 each and applies to all films throughout the day meaning customers can see brand new films which have just been released for only a fiver.
The date selected for the offer is the third Monday in January, a day dubbed as the 'most depressing day of the year' or 'Blue Monday'.
The concept was originally coined in 2004 by psychologist Cliff Arnall. He came up with a "formula" for the January blues after he was asked to do so by travel firm Sky Travel, who then used the phrase in a press release to promote their winter deals. It took into account a number of factors likely to contribute to low mood such as weather, debt, and the time since Christmas.
The Arc Cinema is offering the discount to encourage people to get out and rediscover the big screen experience, cheering themselves up.
Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, Marketing Manager Mark Gallagher said: "January is depressing for a few reasons; I personally find it difficult taking down the Christmas decorations and it's all downhill from there.
"With more people feeling the pinch and the weather being the worst if we can give a handful of people a much-needed evening out- and an affordable one at that- then that'll cheer me up as well as the customer!"
Tickets are now on sale here and films available include Avatar: The Way of Water, currently the seventh highest grossing movie of all-time.
