Celebrations to mark the very first 'Ashfield Day' were attended by over 12,000 visitors last weekend.

The one-day event organised by the District Council for residents living in Ashfield, which includes Hucknall, was held on Saturday (27 August) on Sutton Lawn.

Thousands of families flocked to the park to enjoy the fantastic talent of the local performers on the entertainment stage, which included singing from Ollie Hayes, Ellie, Kirkby-based Empire Music School, and Josh Turner, alongside poetry readings from Kevin Jackson, and the historical play, the 17th Century Show.

Residents also enjoyed the outdoor cinema screenings of Paddington, Mrs Doubtfire, and Grease.

Elsewhere on Sutton Lawn, visitors were able to experience the dog show, donkeys, pony rides, funfair rides, food and gift stalls, live music and arts, free face painting, Disney princesses, and family activities such as circus skills, hoola hoop megastructure, inflatable goals, giant garden games, and giant bubbles.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of Ashfield District Council, said: "Wow, the first Ashfield Day was incredible! Thank you to all the residents who turned up to support the event and thank you to all the hard-working Council staff who made the day such a success. The local talent were the stars of the show, they should be so proud of their performances.

"Ashfield Day was one of the highlights of our summer events calendar, we've had such a fantastic reaction that we are starting to plan Ashfield Day 2023. We will take all feedback on board so we can make the next event even better!"

The Council's next exciting event takes place in Hucknall, with the first ever Ashfield Film Festival being staged at the Arc Cinema, from Thursday 8 – Sunday 11 September.
