Jason Zadrozny, the leader of the Ashfield Independents, was delighted with his Party's performance as they won an incredible 32 of 35 available seats in yesterday's (4 May) District Council elections.
This included a better than expected performance in Hucknall where they won nine out of ten seats, gaining two from Labour and two from the Conservatives.
Speaking to Hucknall Nub News, a visibly emotional Councillor Zadrozny said of the success: "We put ourselves back in front of the residents of Ashfield after trying really hard, we're stood in a leisure centre that didn't exist at the last election (Kirkby), things like that, and the residents of Ashfield have given us another four years to try and do more of the same, so I'm really grateful and touched that they've given us that support.
"The national picture is looking like Labour are clean sweeping councils up and down the country. I think what we've done here in Ashfield is effectively dug a moat around the towns and said look this is not about red/blue politics just whose turn it is to run, this is about your street, your park, your town centre, and politics doesn't have to come into that.
"Vote for the people who are showing you that they're trying their best. We don't get everything right by a long way but we try our best and I think people of Ashfield are good salt of the earth people who want triers and I'm really grateful they've given us that chance to prove ourselves to them again."
