Major Hucknall town centre road closes next week to allow pedestrian crossing conversion
A major road through Hucknall town centre is expected to be closed for around three weeks as of Monday (30 January).
Nottinghamshire County Council has given notice that it intends to close South Street from its junction with West Street to its junction with Baker Street.
This is to allow the existing Zebra crossing which connects the marketplace to the pedestrianised part of the high street to be converted into a Puffin crossing.
The closure is intended to begin from 8am on Monday (30 January) and last until 4pm on Sunday 19 February.
The suggested alternative route for motorists whilst the closure is in place is to use West Street, Spring Street, Annesley Road and Baker Street or the same combination but in reverse order if travelling from the other direction.
A statement on the notice said: "The Order will come into force on 30th January 2023 and any prohibition in it shall apply on that day and any subsequent day when necessary to enable works to be carried out. The Order shall continue in force until the works are completed (within a maximum period of 18 months).
"The prohibition is required to enable Via East Midlands on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council to carry out works on the existing Zebra Crossing."
