Ashfield District Council has produced more short films exploring the interesting historical characters from the local area.

The videos, filmed by local videographer Tom Cable, feature local actors and the scripts are written by Ashfield-based Claire Finn, creator of Ashfield Arts Festival.

The project is a collaboration between the Council and Discover Ashfield to highlight the intriguing past of the area and tales of some well-known, and lesser-known characters from the District.

The new short films are about Jeremiah Brandreth, a revolutionist from Sutton-in-Ashfield who was one of the last men in England to be beheaded with an axe after hanging; Miriam Bramley, Hucknall's first female assistant blacksmith who helped create the gates at Titchfield Park, located in the town; and a civil war soldier, who tells the story of a battle that took place in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

The new films, along with the previous videos featuring Ada Lovelace, William Duke of Portland, and a medieval Kirkby local, can be found on the Council's Youtube channel by clicking here.

Councillor Rachel Madden, Executive Lead Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing said: "We are so pleased to have produced more talking head videos that reveal Ashfield's past. We should be proud of our history and the interesting characters from it. There are a lot of things about Ashfield that many people don't know and these videos will help people to discover something new about the history of Ashfield.

"We are proud to support local talent once again with these films, employing local actors, videographer, and working with Claire again. Ashfield has so much to offer, and we want to encourage and support creative residents as much as we can."
