A new director of communications has been appointed at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust following the departure of Tiffany Jones from the role.

Jack Adlam, who has been Acting Director of Communications since October 2022, will take on the job officially from June 1.

Ms Jones had faced fierce criticism after some parents whose babies had died while in the trust's care discovered they had been blocked by her on Twitter.

Ms Jones, the former director of communications and engagement at the Trust, apologised and deleted her Twitter account before she was suspended in August 2022.

She resigned from the role in December 2022.

The trust remains under heavy scrutiny and is facing three different interventions for improvement.

Maternity services are rated 'inadequate' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the trust as a whole is rated as 'requires improvement'.

There is also an 'inadequate' rating in relation to how 'well-led' the trust is.

Senior midwife Donna Ockenden is also undertaking a huge independent review of the trust's maternity services following baby deaths and injuries.

Mr Adlam has previously worked for the NHS England regional team for the Midlands.

He said: "NUH is my local hospital – it's where I was born, it's where my children were born, and it's where I've spent a significant part of my working life. I feel immense pride in being appointed to this role and I will work tirelessly alongside my colleagues and our partners to build on the work we have started and bring about the positive change and improvement that all of us at NUH want to see and that our communities deserve."

Chief Executive Anthony May said: "As we work to make the necessary improvements to our services, the way we communicate and engage with our diverse audiences will be vital to our success and delivery of our vision to be outstanding in health outcomes and patient and staff experience.

"Jack's experience, knowledge and personal commitment and connection to NUH will be a valuable addition to the Trust and I'm pleased to welcome him as a permanent member of the corporate executive team."
