A Hucknall based charity has donated sports equipment and first aid kits worth around £500 to a local scout group.

OT Fundraisers presented the equipment to Third Hucknall Scouts at their weekly meeting on Thursday night (15 September).

The charity run by Lynne Ryland is named after her son Owen Towle who has a rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi syndrome. They are a well-known group within Hucknall for giving back to the community through various events, collections, and support of good causes.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, Ms Ryland said: "Mark (Boag, the scout leader) reached out and asked for a donation and he was struggling with his scout group and wanting some sports equipment and first aids kits. We'd raised some funds from the Santa's Grotto and the new food club, so it was no brainer to help; it's part of Hucknall community.

"The food club is creating funds for Hucknall community, and I think let's give it to young people and maintain what they're doing."

Third Hucknall Scouts, who meet in a purpose-built scouting hut on Beardall Street, next to the Royal British Legion, have bounced back well after having to suspend meetings for over a year during the Coronavirus pandemic and now have around 20 scouts that attend on a weekly basis. They feel the equipment will benefit the group immensely.

Speaking exclusively to Hucknall Nub News, leader Mark Boag said: "The donation of equipment's going to make a massive difference to us, obviously we've got games there, new balls, the kids can play hockey inside the scout hut, we can take the foldable nets out and we can play games on the scout camps. And the first aid kits, it's so much money to swap the first aid kits every year when everything's out of date so it's just saving us money and by doing that we can now put more funds into keeping the costs of the scouting down for the children and we can take them away more so it's fantastic what OT Fundraisers has been able to do for us.

"We're up to nearly 20 scouts now so it's really good. It's thanks to Hucknall Nub News, because a few months ago when we were down to five scouts you came along and helped us out and numbers have grown, and we've got a great bunch of kids, boys and girls, and they're all enjoying themselves."
