A disgruntled Hucknall resident has launched a petition aimed at ending the so called 'Hucknall hum'.

The hum is a common topic of conversation among Hucknall residents on social media particularly those living at the Watnall end of the town.

There have been numerous discussions referring to a humming type noise that has driven people to distraction and in some cases kept them awake for long periods at night.

The general consensus is that the noise is coming from ITP Aero, the Spanish aero engine manufacturer, based on the former Rolls-Royce site on Harrier Business Park.

Now, one resident, Ash Reynolds, has created a petition entitled: 'Stop the Noise Disturbance from ITP Aero'.

The text explaining the petition, which is on the change.org website, reads: "Concerns over constant noise disturbance from ITP Aero, Dorey Way Hucknall, NG15 6EU which has been affecting residents for a number of years.

"The noise is constant, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and becomes louder depending on the wind direction. This is affecting people with the constant droning noise.

"Ashfield Council don't appear to be making any progress with this and ITP seem reluctant to do anything at all.

"We would like Ashfield District Council to take action to prevent the noise emanating from ITP Aero.

"Please sign now so we can finally get this matter resolved."

Hucknall Nub News approached both ITP Aero and Ashfield District Council about the issue.

A spokesperson from ITP Aero said: "Our site in Hucknall has been a 24/7 operational site for many years and we have strict environmental controls on our business operations. These are regularly audited by Ashfield District Council and other independent bodies.

"We have advised anyone approaching us about their concerns to speak to the Council's Environmental Protection team."

A Council spokesperson said: "We appreciate that residents have concerns about the "hum". That's why we have conducted a number of noise measurements at various times of the day. There is no current evidence of statutory noise nuisance but we will continue to monitor the situation. The Council will continue to work with businesses in the area to minimise the potential for noise."
